If you can’t reach Tim’s electrician contact Beach Electric. They have been to our house twice over the years and have been fast and reliable.

Thanks, I had seen them recommended on yahoo, but it is good to have a personal recommendation.

Just an update for anyone who was following this post. We contacted Richard about 6 or 7 weeks ago. Unfortunately, he was having surgery and couldn't help us at the time. He recommended someone named Kenny Bright. We contacted Kenny who came out to the house said he could do the job but that he was 6 weeks out. We agreed to that timeframe since we were also waiting on kitchen cabinets to arrive. Kenny scheduled the job for this past Sunday. We drove down from Richmond to meet him and he didn't show. I have no idea if something happened to him as that we have been unable to make contact with him. So, now we are 6 weeks behind on this job. We called Beach Electric who never returned the call along with probably 5 or 6 other companies. It is very frustrating to deal with this type of work ethic. Anyhow, I just thought I'd share. We are going to give Richard another call and see if he is recovered from his surgery. I hope so as that I have a kitchen that is sitting undone and it is now May Sad smiley

Richard is back to work after his surgery. I have not heard Kenny on our radio system lately but I hear everyone is busy.

Thanks Tim, we are reaching back out to Richard today. I understand everyone is busy, but returning a phone call or showing up for a scheduled job is just a simple expected courtesy. I do hope nothing happened to Mr Brite, but like I said, I have no way of knowing.

I just Called Walt Davenport with Beach Electric (252-305-9696) last week and one of his guys was at my place the next day. They are all very busy so you might have to stay on them.

Before Walt I tried another guy who was mentioned by a few different folks, but he never called me back so I moved on.

We called them 4/26 and 4/27 and am still waiting for a return call. Maybe I should start taking it personally?! I’m getting a little paranoid!

A lot of these guys are small one-two man operations without the benefit of a office manager scheduling appointments. It’s often luck, timing, and location dependent. They were already down in Hatteras village on another job so they were easily able to swing by.

I understand your frustration though, sometimes it’s hard to get skilled tradesman since there’s always so much work to be done.

Just keep calling. Eventually you’ll get someone on the phone and it’ll work out. Or watch some YouTube videos and do it yourself.

I'm thinking that much of the increased need for services is, of course, due to the increased number of new owners; but also, perhaps, it's due to the lack of DIY knowledge by some of the newer folks.

Not a slam at all....just one guys observation.

Thanks for your observation. We aren’t new owners and are no stranger to DIY. Actually we are renovating the entire house ourselves and this is the first we’ve wanted professional help. Electricity is a whole other animal and makes us a little uncomfortable working with it. But, it is getting to the point where we will need to become comfortable with it if we ever want to get done.

Totally get it, and as said, NOT a slam at all! I would tell ya, resi electrical (from the main down- no meter to main stuff for me) is actually pretty easy. Plumbing frustrates me way more!

Not sure if an option these days, but one could once just take the courses, do the certs/quals and earn ones card. I did that back in the ‘80s
