Is it recommended to treat for termites on a yearly basis in the OBX in addition to the quarterly pest treatments? Not entirely sure what we should sign up for.
Thanks!

We have an annual termite inspection done. Also we have quarterly pest treatments. We have found the success of the pest treatments in limiting pests depends on what technician is apply the bug juice. Some are thorough others not so much.

We have an annual termite inspection and spray done yearly by Don's Pest Control. Since we are there in the summer I spray all around the house and inside by the doors with Max Defense. Wen we rented we had the PM send out a pest control a couple of times during the rental season to insure there were no bugs to upset our renters.

Don't trust Terminix, they don't stand up for their $25k damage claim or whatever they claim they cover up to if you have termites. They even argue those are not termites don't get me started on them.

Trust Don's, Four Seasons, OBPC and Professional 1. Blair McGuiness on Hatteras has a company and he is totally trustworthy.

I haven't had a termite inspection done since I bought my house in 5-18. Maybe I should rethink that? Pro 1 does treatments for bugs every month during the rental season and will come back for free, when needed, for those pesky cockroaches. $65 a month and they do a great job.

So when you get your termite inspection do you have them do a termite preventative treatment or only if they see any sign of termites?

I am assuming the smart thing is to get those annual termite treatments. Quarterly pest treatments are a definite to keep away the renter complaints and hope avoid those nasty giant roaches.

My experience is only if they discover termites.

I don't know if it is common practice in areas outside OBX. I've noticed contractors here bury wood debris on site rather than haul it away. We found this out while having our yard graded for sod and the landscaper unearthed all sorts of building scrap that should have been hauled away. Enough to feed a whole army of terminates. So we don't skip the annual inspection.

Oh wow, that isn’t ideal. We had our house inspected in the fall when we were buying it with no sign of termites so maybe we will keep our fingers crossed until next fall when we get it inspected again.
Thanks for everyone’s responses!

This is my experience with most companies I use and trust. If I ask them if they sprayed they usually say no because no termites were found and they don't want to carelessly spray chemical that is not needed. They will spray for spiders and bugs around the house, but I would go get some spray at Home Depot and I did spray outside and inside monthly during the summer (we allowed dogs and I never heard a flea complaint).

Don's automatically does the treatment after the inspection.

Outer Banks Pest Control is like Don's. If they find signs of termites, they notify us and then treat. If it's during rental season, they try to coordinate with pm and do the treatment on turn day, if possible. We have been happy with OBPC
