I'm in search of a plumber in KDH for my residence. I've used a few in the past. One was good, but was expensive. Another, replaced a busted hot water heater 12 years ago. Did great work, but it was so long ago. This board always seems to educate me in who to use.... and who to steer clear of... no matter what the work or job is. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Didn't say he had to be cheap... just good. After the last time... I was told by several people I was charged too much. Not looking for a deal... Just a good, honest plumber that doesn't take advantage of me being a female. (Something most men don't have to experience!) And sadly, it happens a lot more than you'd think!

Just don't get why you can ask about buying a new refrigerator, but me asking for a plumber recommendation prompts you to be so snarky? Oh that's right.... this is how you usually operate. If you had nothing to offer... why comment at all? No response is needed. I guess some people just can't help themselves.

Whoa, you are a bit off base with that response. Tim is absolutely correct, don't pay anyone in full until the work is 100% complete, and to your satisfaction. I've been stuck numerous times paying a contractor when he's "about finished up"..." will come back for one last thing"..."I'll be back tomorrow"...etc., only to be stood up. I'm an idiot for this trust I place in these contractors. No more. It's good advice.

What the heck are you talking about with your rude uncalled for remarks? I made no snarky remark to you at all. You must see what you want to see and you are blind! My comment was not really even directed at you but to everyone doing business here because a worker will stop work and never return if paid in full early. I was just warning people and that was all.

Then you'll be happy to know that plumbers on the Outer Banks are the most gender equitable tradesmen ever. They now take advantage of women and men equally.

I agree fully. Sometimes I'm not savvy enough to see the job was not done correctly. I had one of the recommended plumbers in this thread install a new hot water tank. All looked well until a few years later when I discovered the tank had sprung a leak. What happened was the worker who was sent to do the job installed "dissimilar metal nipples" on the cold & hot water connections on the tank which caused the nipples to corrode. The company sent a worker to correct the problem and I received a bill for their fix. I sent a letter of protest and never heard back from the company.
