I have not seen Scott to ask him what color it will be but it will not be long to find out. The removal of the old stuff is taking a while so I wonder if they had problems or just are going slow. #122

That house used to be flat on the ground in the 70s and 80s. I don't know when it was raised . It actually sat much higher than currently after it was move/raised. It actually had a wood bulkhead in front of it and an adjacent house. I can remember Hurricane waves crashing over the top of that house. Quite interesting.

The previous owner had the local piling company ( Emanuelson & Dad) drop pilings in 28 ft, I was told. The house has low ceilings and doorways and should be there a long time with those pilings. Most just go down 8ft.

Emanuelson & Dad lifted the house to the pilings in August of 2001 as I recall. There were a few other houses still on the beach there at that time.

Is this a piece of history restored and cared for from some time long forgotten?

3200$ for the week 5/23-5/30

Seems a bit steep for what you get, imo. Kitchen is subpar, wicker furniture in the living room. Not a single king bedroom. No pool.

Ocean views look awesome, but other than that what am I missing here?

I sincerely do not mean to talk any trash on this place, I’m sure it’s lovely. But with all the other options available, why is this place special at such a price point?

My reading comprehension is suffering tonight.

Thanks Pickle, there’s the answer right there. It’s nostalgic since it’s been around over 50 years. Hence the draw for those chasing their childhood.

Got it.

Good for the owners keeping around such a piece of history. Probably justifies the price point, too.

Location is why it rents as it does. You cannot get any closer to the ocean! It's very unique.

Kitty Hawk offers a beach much less crowded than KDH and Nags Head, little commercialization and some great Oceanfront rental values. However, I must say that you have to come for THE BEACH. There are no Oceanfront houses with pools, only a few hot tubs, no McMansions, no beach access parking on the Oceanside of The Beach Road and yes most of the Oceanfront rentals are 50 or more years old. A touch of the past and perfect for smaller families wanting THE BEACH. Come one, come all.

Exactly right! No idea what Dr No is talking about. That is about the only house I know of that has a 180 deg ocean view - Unobstructed. I told the owner to name it Fish From The Deck but he didn't. Parking is horrible and someone over 6 ft must walk carefully around the tiny house. That place rents well - over $60,000 last year.

ALiphatic, if you saw where this house was located you would understand.

I am a 1st class amenities guy when it comes to renting, and this place isn't it, but it is on my bucket list of houses to rent simply for the location.

/\ /\ /\ /\ Yep. Exactly why we've never rented it, but I've always wanted to. Once my wife and I are empty nesters, I hope to rent it. But with the kids, and maybe another family renting with us... a larger house with a pool is our norm.

I think it's a feeling or a vibe you get with this type of rental....maybe not everyone gets that feeling or vibe either. I don't know. For me the house has been there forever, sits up there all by itself practically IN the ocean, looks almost like you need 4WD to park, would mean that you could be almost anywhere in the house with an ocean view. Only downside for me is hubby would have to crawl around inside and Hatteras can't go with us....

Just my $.02....

Oh yes Kitty hawk houses....my parents would only rent in Kitty Hawk because my dad said the black biting flies were bad below Nags Head. lol. Its all about the memories....when hurricanes hit we always watched the news for this famous house.
