So yesterday I reserved a cottage in Frisco for next June for the grandkids and myself. I was enjoying a few brews on the porch later on and one thing led to another and I reserved another in Frisco for me and the mutts for Thanksgiving week. I think I’m done for now. November is one of three months I have not been on Hatteras. Something to look forward too. Anyone else going that week?

We have been twice at Thanksgiving and love it! I wish we could go this year, but we have to pick up our son from school that Tuesday. The drive is too long to go just from Wednesday to Sunday.

We stayed Thanksgiving week 2018 and the week before Thanksgiving last year. I vowed never to go Thanksgiving week again after being stuck in traffic from Breezewood all the way to the Ohio line. 20-30 mph the entire way. Misery.

Weather was amazing - 2018 I think we had a few days of short showers and nothing in 2019. 60's during the day and 40's at night. Didn't stop the kids from playing in the surf. The boys did a lot of surf fishing. They kayaked last year and had a blast. There was only 1 good day out of the week for kayaking due to direction and strength of winds. Lots of places open to eat. It was wonderful.

It was perfect weather to wear a hoodie while enjoy the waves from the deck with the pups.

If you're lucky you'll have beautiful weather for Thanksgiving. I've spent many on the island, from 75 and light breeze with blue sky's, to 30 and wind gusts at 40. Both are wonderful smiley

We usually go down for Thanksgiving every year. It's awesome! Some kids still get in the water, brrrrrr. I don't know how it is south of the bridge, but Thanksgiving week seems to be pretty popular from Nags Head north. It's just my wife and I and we always make a basic meal. I make a huge pan of homemade stuffing, a roasted chicken, garlic mashed potatoes or sometimes just roasted dutch creamers, and store bought Parker House rolls. We get jarred gravy and canned cranberry sauce to save time. It's a nice, peaceful time and the cooler days are great for walks.

Before my daughter got into High School and the district changed their schedule around we went Thanksgiving week 7 years in a row.

They were some of the greatest OBX vacations we ever had.

You will find that there are many many people down there that week. I won't really feel off season at all except for the weather.

And that said I recall a Thanksgiving a few years back where it was 87 and we were on the beach, the next year it was around 45

Love Thanksgiving week at Nags Head. We went that week for about 15 years in a row.....the weather can vary so drastically from day to day and year to year. One year we toughed it thru a crazy Nor’easter storm (we’re without power for about 36 hrs.) one year we had amazing weather (wore shorts and t-shirts and the average temperature was about 75 - 80 degrees) AND then there are lots of different types of weather in between the really good and really bad stuff. We haven’t been there for the past couple of years during Thanksgiving week and really do miss it! As I recall some of the restaurants close at the end of that week (not all). There were stores holding great sales. Who knows what this year will be like with Covid. Lots of great memories from Thanksgiving week! Have Fun!

"Anyone else going that week?"

Plan to be in Avon depending on what the kids decide to do. The only downside is not being with our children if none of them can come that week.

Now whether Covid19 will allow it this year but, there is usually an art show at the high school on Thanksgiving weekend. Lots of local artists of all kinds in attendance. We really enjoyed it and every morning the first thing I see is a painting of the Ocracoke lighthouse hanging in my bedroom that I bought at that art show.
