Remember

Remember the good old days when we "discussed" canopy skeletons left on the beaches, big holes left on the beach where people could fall in? Remember the Butter Roast threads? Remember Bob?? When to get over the bridge before it got too much traffic? Many more good old things I miss. Sure miss those days.....Oh yea how about the pork roll and what's it really??? Spam??? No, lets not fight about that.
Now it's all about masks, cancellations, the virus closing up stuff, etc, etc.....and worse of all the political fighting messing up this forum
Nothing stays the same..........I just miss the old forum.

I've just been on this site for three weeks and hearing how it used to be, I miss the old forum! Some folks seem to be cranky and mean-spirited these days. My local community group developed the same issues. Fortunately, the administrators gave warnings and then blocked the perps when they wouldn't stop their nastiness..

We can absolutely make this that board and ignore the disruptions.

I wonder how The Hot Tub Man would perceive today's OBC group. I suspect nothing confrontational would come from him...nothing but goodwill.

Long live the King.

I miss it too. I had planned to just stop coming here after I finished my trip report from last month, and I'm not here as often, but I haven't left entirely. I come here to chat and read about one of my favorite places, an escape from my every day life, not to hear about crap that is the reason we stopped watching the news. It is definitely not the same and I'm afraid they've run off too many people for it to go back to the way it was.

Yes the good old days when there was always an active thread on beach driving and the only real enemy on the board was the Piping Plover!

Or the many wonderful discussions when someone would post about beach nourishment and others would proclaim how the 1st storm will take it out. We would have had a beach re nourished sooner had one person not been so WRONG about it. Sad smiley Now it looks like the new normal, even Southern Shores is going for it next.

I know of at least 2 because they PM'd me and said they were done (one in April one a few weeks ago). We have stayed in touch via email, but hopefully they come back at soon point.

Ahhh, and I even miss the occasional dog thread where it often took a wrong turn. I'd take that over stupid Covid, stupid trolls, and stupid politics any ol day. Oh, and the feral cats!

It's the same three old timers that have harassed and creepily stalked each and every new comer. That's the problem and everyone knows it.

BigBill

Some newcomers steal other's avatar, and then use foul language in their posts. One even went so far is to have a big middle finger for his avatar. Consequently some of us old timers get a little irate at the new kids on the block. We really get frosted when we suspect a poster has multiple personalities on this board.

Remember daily posts with the number of skeletons left on the beach? OOhh how about a certain fishing captain that always posted very colorful stuff about NPS/birds/closures. I wonder if him and another member ever had that meet up at the docks...

I don't check in daily like I use to. I use to do an early morning flag of all the weight loss and hair replacement spams. Things have changed, and they will continue to evolve. Such is life - like the sand at the point.

You might be talking about Rick Caton, or Cato to some. I don’t think the rumble on the wharf ever took place. But that’s probably a good thing.
Cato was fishing on his boat Free Agent a number of months ago, when his leg got gashed by a flopping shark that was on the deck. He poured bleach on the wound to kill the bacteria, then bandaged himself up. The Doctors said he at the very least saved his leg, and probably his life as well. He doesn’t post here anymore, but I can tell you he’s tough as nails.

I don't think it's gotten THAT bad that I would not check this forum out almost every day. There are always a few bad apples in the barrel....I just pass by them (after I read their stupid msgs.) I really would miss this forum if Will took it off. Since I couldn't be there this year, it's my only link.
I LOVE the pictures people post of their vacations. I also find myself looking at the live web cams and sighing....ahhhhh. Hopefully next year we'll be back.

LOL. I actually saw them tag one this morning in KDH. It was around 8:00 when they tagged it and no one ever came over to claim it all day.

Ironically, THIS week (no clue why) we have the laziest group of mofos where we like to beach on Hatteras. No one, save a super cool group renting near us takes their stuff in at night -never ever seen it this bad.

We need NPS Ranger “Frank” back!!! He tagged my umbrella once at 7AM...I had just stuck it in the sand 15 before and I saw him tag it from the water. The dude was the bomb, beach was always clear!!!

Not lately, but here's one in the middle of nowhere on a deserted island (Portsmouth) in 2018. Excuse the poor cell phone picture. I was not expecting to see that and took the picture from a moving ATV.

We were there for 11 glorious (ok, 2 were rainy but we loved it anyway) days in June and didn't see a single one.
