I think the update info is on driveNC.gov. They were hoping for Tuesday around 11, but that may have changed. Keep checking. You might want to look at possible rentals in the area where you already are? Maybe check with the rental company about that possibility? Good Luck.

Looks like 3-4,000 cubic yards of sand to me. (Just on the travel lanes themselves.) The bucket on those rubber tire loaders is 2.5-3 CY. (Dump trucks hold 10-15 CY) It will be a few runs with the loaders.....

Looks like Wednesday the earliest , most likely Thursday around noon. Still have a few tide cycles to go through. I would imagine a lot of standing water in Salvo since that area tends to hold on to water even after some rainstorms. Also when they do open the bridge they funnel everybody coming from the north into the OI lots.People line up early and sometimes line cutting takes place with no plans or police in the lot .

If you are now in a house, stay where you are for the duration. The standing salt water will kill your vehicle, and at best you will get two days down in Salvo. You are better staying North of all of that mess.

You have the internet though it would appear. Everyone here is quoting local sources that are online. DriveNC.gov, islandfreepress.org, and obxtoday.com have come up. There is no local news on TV. The "local" news there is from Southeastern VA and although they drop tidbits about the goings on of the OBX it's very much a VA news station. The weather is always wrong, the news is always about shootings in Norfolk or similar, etc. Use the internet, it's almost 2020.
