Most forgotten thing: poll

I was having a conversation with myself (it happens often, don't laugh) about the things I will forget when packing for this 10day "getting to know the house" trip at the beginning of December. It got me thinking, what is the most commonly forgotten beach vacation item?
Thought it would be a fun poll since we all love the beach and I am sure we have all forgotten things for a trip.

Whatever it is I’m sure my wife asked me about it specifically and I assured her I packed it.

Beach chairs. You'd think that would be an easy one to remember, but noooo. Most likely because they are in the attic above the garage, so out of sight. It could also be that I'm lazy and don't want to go up in the attic. Naw, lets go with the first thing...Laughing smiley

We just buy a couple more cheap ones while down there and either leave them at the house if we don't have room or bring them back and add to the collection.

For years it has been a joke that we always forget to take a can opener. Several times the rental houses haven't had one. We figure it goes missing during the rental season.

The other funny thing that we "forget" is how to pack dryer/fabric softener sheets. A couple of times we have packed them in the same box as food. Yuck! Never make that mistake! Talk about ruining the taste of all your food in that box. We were sitting there eating snacks on the beach when we all looked at each other and said, "Do you taste GAIN?" So, we don't forget that again! Amazing how the strong smell ends up in the food.

And this right here is why I pack and my husband would have it no other way ;)

I could see this happening in our house. We fly so we don't bring beach chairs but when we used to go camping in the mountains that would be the last thing packed into the car, first thing out ;)

We have a beach list that we have copied. So we just check everything off as we pack or should I say I pack. Hubby just kinda gets in the car. Have had to buy a corkscrew once so it goes into the beach bags too. Have to have our wine out on the deck.

I don’t think we have forgotten big stuff. When the kids were little we have forgotten flashlights. Nightlights. Socket covers, suntan lotion and aloe gel for sunburn...but they are all easily replaced

It's not what I forget to bring, but what I forget to bring back.

I recently had clothes mailed back to me from a very kind homeowner in Beaufort.

However, such forgetfulness can work in a favorable way. Last Fall, I forgot my winter coat salmon fishing in Michigan. I told Peg that I "really need that coat", so went back up in November to get it. And I did...I also just happened to catch some nice steelhead! Wink smiley

Nothing. I started a packing list back in the mid 80s and each year revised it by deleting/adding various items. I use it during our packing of the car, crossing off each item as it goes in the car. Yes maybe a little anal, but it works.

But if by some very strange reason something is forgotten, you can buy it, except for your medications and good beer.

We are pretty good at brining what we need. We have a few beach bags that we keep all our stuff in. The one thing we forget most the time that we like to take are a pair of binoculars. We don't keep them with the beach things, and usually the first day there we'll see a something out in the water we want to look at then remember we don't have them.

Coffee bean grinder! smiley Last year for our Thanksgiving visit we forgot to pack it. We were staying in Frisco. We searched up and down the island and couldn't find one. Of course after the fact it hit us, we could have just taken the bag of beans to a coffee shop and they would have ground them for us.

Camera batteries! One of our party missed a couple of great shots at Alligator River when his battery gave out.

After decades of packing for beach trips, I'm happy to say we rarely forget anything truly necessary. If we do, there are stores that stock everything we could need. Good luck with your packing! Thumbs up

I find that I have to remind myself that we're not going to the end of the earth. Almost anything that I forget, I can buy there. A couple of years ago, I forgot my sunglasses...my PRESCRIPTION sunglasses. Stopped at Walmart when we got into Kitty Hawk and was able to find a pair of clip-ons that just about fit perfectly. My husband somehow neglected to pack his swim trunks two years ago. I was never in a Wings before that; two pairs for $15.99. Score! LOL

Two years ago I forgot the dog dishes. A trip to the dollar store solved that and now they remain in the beach box .I'm like Robert, I have a list that was started many years ago and I have some things that just stay in the beach box.

I had a very interesting exchange last summer with a visitor who had forgotten something. It was nearly dark and there was a knock at my door. When I answered, a gentleman was standing there with a small red solo cup. He asked if I had any Vodka or Tequila he could have a shot of. He proceeded to say he had forgotten to bring the wife's drink of choice, had no idea they could not buy it anywhere on a Sunday, and his wife really needed that drink after a long day of travel. I offered him the remains of a nice Vodka (probably a cup of good stuff) but he insisted he only needed a little bit.
I've lived next door to a rental for the past 15 plus years and will say that was the oddest request I have ever gotten. I've lent clothing to a poor woman who never expected June to be cold, as well as corkscrews, can openers and various other cooking utensils. I've even lent out a few beach towels- never Vodka though!

I've been trying to think of stuff and usually everything we forget is easily sourced at the beach. We've never forgotten anything critical. I have my packing down to a science and our list of what to bring is static so if anything is missing I have a hole among everything packed in the truck. Our pack list varies between spring and fall and each trip has a designated packing layout else it won't work.

Sometimes we have to leave without enough meds on purpose because of long trips and it's too early to refill before we leave. We stay north of the Bonner though and it's easy to pick them up at CVS during our trip.

I can relate! Most often I forget to pack a few cold beers to crack open immediately after unpacking. Having to wait until I get to Food Lion is brutal!

My wife forgot a bunch of stuff including her suits when we went down in September. This was a day after the hurricane, we were sure we wouldn't be able to get in so we very slowly packed some stuff. Late Sunday morning we got the call the house was good to go. Two hours later we were off...... forgetting to pack a bunch of stuff.

A few years ago we went on a 14 day cruise. I thought I was smart and packed my carry on and suitcase about 2 weeks before. Stupid me forgot underwear, luckily I not only brought a few pairs of bathing trunks I also brought for whatever reason 3 pairs of Speed'O's.....which substitute very well Lol
