You're just half an hour from Pops Raw Bar. It is worth the drive any day, everyday!

Some of th restaurants are beginning to close for the season, ie Hatteras Sol, Sandbar and Grill, Rusty’s...I mention these because they are three of my favs.
I think the Cafe at the Inn on Pamlico Sound is open and Dinky’s, and Good Winds.
I realize most of these are South os Salvo. We generally stay in Frisco and are more inclined to venture south. If Sonny’s is open in Hatteras Village they serve a wonderful breakfast.
You may find some live music at some of the restaurants.
I’d call ahead to make sure venue is open.
Stores again can be opened or closed. Drive down 12~you’ll find something.

You may want to check this link for somewhat weekly info.

You may find yourself traveling north over the Bonner for more options depending on what you’re looking for

Check out The Graveyard of The Atlantic Museum Click to follow link... and any number of art galleries around the area - many are still open. I second Pop's and Dinky's and have enjoyed The Breakwater...while some friends were just down at went to The Tavern on 12 Click to follow link... and enjoyed themselves.

Also if you enjoy fresh fish - buy some and cook it "at home". Fish

By thrift shops I’m fairly sure you’re not talking Dollar Tree or such (but they’re there).
Again, I’m more familiar with the southern part of HI so I’ll submit some stores you may enjoy.
Seaworthy Gallery
Lee Robinson’s General store
The Blue Pelican (a favorite)
Isabella’s closet, fashions to wear
Swell Art Gallery, formerly Indiantown Gallery, now across fro the Scotch Bonnet
3 Island Girls, lots of renovated or repurposed furniture and other items
The Elegant Attic, antique-y kinda items to new, little bit of everything, furniture that’s been upgraded or you can update yourself. Focus is on stained glass windows
The Old Gray House...a treat to visit. The
Old time owners, the Parr’s, have retired but the house is now operated by a family member of some sort, I forget the relationship.

There are others but these came to mind. Much of the merchandise is fashioned by local artists or entrepreneurs. None of that “I went to OBX and got you-this shirt” stuff.
