Booking Experience

So what might be a once in a lifetime chance, my son and daughter, both in Atlanta, have given me a wonderful birthday present - they have both managed to take vacation from their busy careers at the same time and spend a week with me and Mrs. Bluefish at OBX. We discovered OBX after they were grown and gone and we've been trying to do this for years, but could never find a week that worked for everyone. The date is only 3 weeks out and the house requests among the group resulted in a limited choice. We narrowed it down to two - one with Hatteras Realty and the other with Outer Beaches. We decided to go with Hatteras Realty, but the turn day was Saturday and we needed a Sunday turn day. We called and asked if the turn day could be changed, and if not, could we book an extra day at the end of the week. The answer was "yes" but they would need to okay the request with the owners. Understandable. They said they would call us back. We explained there was a bit of urgency because if they couldn't accommodate our request, there was another house available and we didn't want to lose it waiting on their response. No problem, they would check and call us back. They never called. We called back and left a message, still no return call. So, this morning we booked through Outer Beaches. My daughter said she prefers the Outer Beaches home anyway, so all is fine. Still, I'm disappointed in the lack of attention by Hatteras Realty. We've always gotten good service through them and I hope this is not a sign of a larger problem. Looking forward to being back in Hatteras in a few weeks! It's been too long!

Wonder if they were not able to contact the homeowner to accommodate your urgent request.

I've been called to ask if someone could move into our house due to flooding at the house that was rented. I called back when I received the message.

I'm thinking one of three possibilities:
1) The owner said no, so that was the end of it for HR.
2) The owner could not be reached. No answer is the same as an answer of "no."
3) HR didn't bother checking after they said they would.

We made our request known on Thursday expecting a call back later that day. We called on Friday and again Saturday morning and left a message both times. It's Sunday and no one has bothered to call back. That's just unprofessional. I would have expected them to check, find out, call back with a "yes" or with suggestions on alternative homes. A real go-getter would have called us back even if they couldn't reach the owner and let us know they were trying, and maybe still pitch us some alternatives. Like I said, we've booked our house with Outer Beaches and all is good. We've just used Hatteras Realty before with good experience, and I was disappointed with how they dropped the ball on this.

I would be disappointed as well with HR. Screwups happen to that is all it was and not one of your three possibilities, which all are unacceptable.

It's so wonderful of your kids to make your Birthday wish come true. Hope your family time memories are the best and you like the house you booked. A simple follow-up call one way or the other certainly would make for better customer service. Please post pics Star

Even if the answer was no it is just common courtesy and good business practice to let you know. Happy birthday and enjpy your week with family Thumbs up
