What is your number 1, can't miss, all time favorite restaurant in the OBX? And what do you get that is so good?

The one place that we go to every year is Kill Devil Grill. The fish special is what I usually get

Sam and Omies in NH anything from the breakfast menu including Bloody Marys., dinner fried oysters, dessert peanut butter pie.

The Black Pelican in KH my daughter likes the mahi mahi lunch entrée

Rundown Café in KH used to be the seafood chowder/soup.? Rundown Soup, (Appetizers), A traditional jamaican soup of fish, coconut milk, onions, tomatoes & yams.....sweet and delicious flavors

and because they are closed after many years in business I still have to mention The Fisherman's Wharf and The Queen Anne's Revenge in Wanchese for any type of seafood dish. When my daughter was young, a hostess at the Elizabethian Gardens told her young couples get married at the Gardens. She wanted to do that and then have a reception dinner at The Queen Anne's Revenge that's how special it was to us.
And way back when I was a child, The Oasis between bridges from NH to Roanoke Island....fried shrimp and to die for cornbread. I'm 57

Here's a handy thread about restaurants near Manteo: Click to follow link... which people posted quite a bit of good info on.

For some local color, a cold beer and some good tuna bites down on Hatteras Island, try Pop's in Buxton.smiley with shades For another Buxton spot that is more expensive and has a lovely sound view try The Cafe Pamlico Click to follow link...

As you head on down to Hatteras there are some other nice places that people can tell you about. When we stayed down there we pretty much cooked our dinners at home and went out maybe the last night. Dinky's was very good as was The Breakwater Inn...

Enjoy yourselves!

Soft shell crab sandwich with lettuce tomato and some kind of tartar special dressing....a lot of restaurants will have soft shell crabs in season. You eat the entire thing. My daughter used to call it the fried spider sandwich but she ate it!

We like Tale of the Whale, and I Got Your Crabs. Great food and ambiance at Tale. Very plain utilitarian environment at Crabs with kraft paper table cloths, if any, but exceptional seafood sandwiches, seafood baskets, and the like. Yummy stuff. We also like Black Pelican, but not quite as well as Tale. Ask for a window table. JK's is white linen, but it has been hit and miss for us. Exceptional sometimes, so-so other times. Pricey. Probably a good choice if you like good beef.

If you want some delicious simple dishes have lunch at O’Neal’s in Wanchese! Great sandwiches and “fish boats”!

Basnight’s Lone Cedar for a bit more upscale meal.

The Paper Canoe in Duck is another.

The Paper Canoe, hands down. The seafood trio is superb, their duck breast with the port wine reduction is fantastic, as is their seared scallop dish. Their fish special has never disappointed, either.

Seriously, the Paper Canoe is *excellent* and I am saying that knowing that I am *very* hard to please.

# 1 LONE CEDAR. Best soft shells in season, she crab soup and corn bread. Also recommend fried green tomatoes. They grow a lot of their own vegetables and herbs and also use local seafood. Have never had a bad meal there and have eaten there frequently over the past 20 years.

# 2. BLUE MOON . Best shrimp and grits.

I am surprised no mention of The Salt Box on Colington Rd. Best food on the beach as far as I am concerned. They require reservations for a reason in the summer. The fish specials are my favorite.

On Hatteras Island, I am partial to the Cafe at the Inn on Pamlico Sound, Rusty’s Surf and turf, and my all time fav, Hatteras Sol, where I generally choose an entree from their “specials” of the day. If you have a hankering for an outstanding salad, their goat cheese and spinach salad is killer good, and huge!

As a Resident I probably look at Restaurants different than Vactioners. To me Pricing and Portions rank almost equal to QUALITY.. NO FOO FOO Restaurants
and no Umbrella Drinks or Craft Beers. That criteria eliminates a lot Vacationer Favorites. My Favorites run a wide menu.
Blue Moon Beach Grill - Shrimp & Grits
Josephines Sicilian Kitchen - Everything
Black Pelican - Fishermans Risotto or Prime Rib
TL's Family Restaurant - Anything for Lunch. Hush Puppies
Arts Place - Hamburger Lunch or Breakfast
Jolly Roger, yes Jolly Roger. Excellent sized portions of good food. Italuan.stuff, No Steak or Shrimp.
O'Neals - Excellent Lunch Seafood or a Ribeye Sandwich to die for. Lots of grilled Onions and Fried Okra.
Okay Pizza = Slice
Thai Room very good, New China for Lunch Buffet
Yes Captain George's for a special occasion. Can't beat it
Lastly I do not like waiting and some very hyped restaurants will not go to Brewing Station, Mama Qwans and Tale of the Whale

The number 1, can't miss, all time favorite for me would have to be Pop's in Buxton. Coldest beer, best fish bites, best fish sandwich.

Next on the list would be Oceana's in Avon. They have a special each weekday. If I hit them on steamed shrimp day that's what I get. If it's fish tacos day that's what I get. If it's on any other day I'll get the blackened tuna griller.

In no particular order is Sam and Omies in Nags Head for breakfast. For a nice dinner I would go to Owen's in Nags Head, Ketch 55 in Avon, or Dinky's in Hatteras depending on which is closer, and for a quick lunch you can't beat Buxton Munch in Buxton - fish tacos are excellent.

Finally, if you are down in Ocracoke I would recommend Dajio's for fish, Jason's for pizza, and don't get off the island without seeing Eduardo at Eduardo's Taco Stand. You'll know what to order there.

We have 3 places that we really try our hardest to get to, and usually do unless staying in Rodanthe. High Cotton (great bbq), spankys (good burgers at a good price), and Jolly Roger (we love their Italian dishes). If we are staying in Rodanthe (which we don't do the often anymore), we usually do spankys for lunch, and grab some bbq for later, Jolly Roger we don't get too.
