Curious about other agencies' check in times

I know years ago (like a decade) check in time with Cove Realty used to be 3 which was very convenient but it's now pushed back an hour later till 4. No big deal really, but 6 p.m. is late for sure. I do know if you arrived early say 2 and your house was ready with Cove Realty they never charged an early check in fee, but then again this might have changed as well

Beat us by 2.5 hours ultra hog. :(

We rolled the dice and decided to try to time it to arrive around 4:30. I called the office en route at 3:45 just to check the status and was told they were “just finishing up” and we should come on in bc it would be done. So we did a quick stop at Food Lion for milk and got to the cottage at 4:30. We didn’t get a text but tried the lock thinking bc we had been told to come on it would work- it didn’t. I could see the place had been cleaned but they had left. I called and was told an inspector needed to check it out before it was released. So we waited till 5. I called again and was told that whoever from the office had told us to arrive did not have authority to do so. I asked them if there was any way we could be allowed in with the dog (and milk) so she agreed, but said an inspector would now not come. Fast forward- 20 minutes later here comes the inspector smiley fast forward to 5:49 and I get a text “your house is ready” lol

I did find out a few things through all of this- 1. The 6 pm guarantee is not a new policy
2. We - and this is the quote- “were lucky “ last year- “someone’s got to be last”
3. Only 4 houses per village are allowed early arrival payment designation
4. “Almost every rental agency has a 6 pm guarantee.” And “80-90% of families get in before 6”

Oh well, water over the dam now. Next year I’m not sure how we’ll work the arrival. I’ll say one thing, this piece of heaven is worth the wait!

Number 4 is definitely incorrect. 4 pm has always been the standard. If that's changed, then I'll be searching out that 4 pm company. Hotels are the same way across the country. 4 pm.

You are correct in your next statement.

Man, I'm really missing out. I don't charge any cleaning fees, pet fees, early check-in fees, processing fees, convenience fees, property protection fees or home service fees. And no matter what, you'll get in by 4pm. What am I thinking?

Is there a site that you use for self renting properties? Would love to be able to rent directly from someone rather than deal with a PM

I'm listed here on the owners section, and I have a google business listing. Both point to our Facebook page, Crosswind Landing OBX in Frisco. I do provide discounts to OBC members as well.

Thanks, I never noticed the Member Rental section before, but I will check out the houses for our next vacation. Your house looks really nice, great job on the reno!

John, I should’ve added this is what I was told by this agency. As someone relative new to OBX vacationing I wouldn’t know for sure.

I understood that your list was coming from the agency. I apologize if my reply implied it was from you. That's most certainly not the case and I'm glad you started this thread. 6 PM has never been the norm for as long as I've been renting. If that's changed, and it very well may have, I'll be giving my business to those that are bucking the 6 pm trend. I'm sure there are still some out there.

In recent years, it’s been 4-6, tho 6 was an outside time, and it rarely took that long. Only once, in over 30 yrs did I wait til a bit after 6, and that was because the island just re-opened after Hurricane Earl.
I vaguely remember time ck in windows of 2-4, and earlier 1-3.
