Anyone else trying to drop a few lbs before summer

Anyone that knows me I love to eat and I'm always on diet. Lets just say some days are better than others. I'm calorie counting and hoping to drop a few pounds before summer gets here. I'm logging my food, getting my steps in and trying to exercise every day even if just 20 minute, and increasing my water intake. Anyone else trying to drop a few pounds before summer?

Same here. I put on about 13 extra pounds since fall and now I'm trying to get rid of it by the end of May. I'm down 4 lbs since Jan 1. It's hard because I love to cook and eat smiley Aside from the gym and shoveling snow I can't get out in my yard and work like I do in the summer.

Good for y’all. I’m trying to eat less and move more as well. I’ve been using myfitnesspal.com to track calories, carbs, fat, protein, sodium, sugar, water and exercise. They have a good data base and the app is user friendly, plus it’s free. Good luck and keep on truckin…

I just spent the last week listening to Penn Gilletes book on how he lost 100#.The book is called Presto. It has made me think about how I have been Dieting. Don't think I could do the diet that worked for him but my diets allways included processed food. My next attempt at diet will concentrate on no process food, salt, and keeping my eating to a narrow window.

My wife and I both decided to try weight watchers after I couldn't stand looking at pictures of me on the beach anymore. Started last June and we're both down about thirty pounds. She's close to where she wants to be... I'd like to lose another fifteen before the summer.

We've had good luck with weight watchers!

Tracking calories is great, and I had good results with it, but the most sustainable thing for me has been trying to stick to a ketogenic diet. A lot of people call it a lot of different things, NSNG (no sugar, no grains), low carb, etc. I highly recommend looking into it. There's a guy named Vinnie Tortorich who puts out a lot of info on NSNG. I'm down 40 lbs, eat eggs and bacon for breakfast, and at my last yearly physical my doctor told me that the improvement in my blood work usually only occurs when people are put on cholesterol meds.

Regarding Weight Watchers, i still track points, but instead of $20 a month to be able to use their app i use one called ProTracker which is probably $3 or something.

My wife wanted to do Whole 30 at the beginning of the year. I was not very enthused but wanted to be supportive, as I knew it would be difficult for her to pull off if I was going through the normal diet for the month. For those of you not familiar, you eliminate beans. legumes, grains, dairy, sugar, alcohol, wheat, maybe more not sure for 30 days. You eat a lot of meat, fish, chicken, fruits and vegetables. Honestly, I let my wife do the research since it was her idea. It's not easy, but you definitely get results. I lost 12 pounds the month of January, and have lost 2 more in February. My wife lost 10 pounds. Keep in mind, I worked out probably 3-4 times per week as well w/ our Bowflex Max Trainer w/ sit ups and push ups since it was January and really didn't get to ride my bike. My wife probably worked out only 5-6 times the whole month. I personally know 3 other people that have done Whole 30, and they all lost 10 pounds or more in the month as well. My wife and I continue to have probably 3-4 days per week that would be considered Whole 30 compliant, but we're not strict about it. We use our favorite recipes from the cookbooks. Biggest thing for us is cutting out added sugar, dairy, and grains. Alcohol intake is very little during the week, with a few drinks on the weekend.

I think Whole 30 is familiar to the ketogenic diet someone else mentioned, but not entirely sure.

Good luck to everyone!

I still have about 4 or 5 to go. I was down 59.2 since March as of this past Tuesday. It fluctuates now that I'm closer to my goal weight.

I just counted calories, and walked a lot last summer. I didn't walk hardly at all through the fall/winter (it's brutal here in NWPA) but still lost about 15 pounds between September and now just through calorie counting. Hopefully can hit goal before summer hits, and then time to work on making it all look better!

Me! You are so inspiring Robin. Last summer I was so heavy I didn't even wear a swimsuit so I was determined not to be that way this year. I have lost 42 pounds since October and I'm determined to lose about 15-20 more before I go on our Outer Banks trip in May.

This was one of my hotel side ocean view room sights over the weekend. The aroma and open sign didn’t sidetrack my motivation. Instead I headed out for a long breezy walk by the sea. We can do this Star

Yep, me also. I started taking a Rx for HBP and immediately added 10 pounds. So, I have been playing pickleball for the last two months 3 to 4 times a week at the Y and the Dare Rec Center. It is all indoors here on the Outer Banks. I haven't really surfed this winter since it has been so cold. Best wishes to all and congrats to those succeeding.

Hit 65 pounds down yesterday! Probably don't need to lose enough to justify 70, but I'm still not completely done. I think another 3. Too bad we've hit the time of year when all the amazing ice cream stands are open in NWPA ;)

That's awesome! Me, I had my annual physical in May and my doctor said I need to lose 10 pounds. My blood-work was perfect though so that was a relief. I haven't been able to lose an ounce so today I went over to Weight Watchers and joined. I'm going to lose 20 lbs and get to my ideal weight of 185. I accept the fact that I need a structured program to lose it and keep if off.

The cost is low and the smart points thing seems like a good fit for me. WW has a nice app to track daily points and you can scan bar codes to add foods. I also stayed for a meeting. Nice people and pretty motivating.

My next trip to the banks will be for two weeks at Thanksgiving (my 61st birthday) so hopefully I'll be at my goal weight by then. smiley

Hows everyone else doing?

OMG....I can't believe that I only came across this thread TODAY! Congratulations on the successes everyone! I've been struggling with the same 30lbs (give or take) since 2008. I dropped 60lbs before my wedding in 2007 and gained 30 of that back over the course of the following year. So here I am again... Hatteras in September... Pants feeling tighter... I think that I'm somewhere around 10lbs heavier than I was at that time last year. So at just under 8 weeks until beach therapy time, I decided over the weekend that I'm giving myself a goal of getting at least those 10 off. Keep up the good work everyone!! Banana

Your link doesn't work. I stopped snacking and started eating reasonable portions. Add surfing and pickleball and I am down 12 pounds. 5 more to go. I love my Fitbit and the android app for it.
