RE: Buxton Trip - Jan. 11-21

The sunset was beautiful, and there were so many gulls!

From there, we cleaned up and got a cab to Turner’s in Avon. We all had a really fun time. I got up early this morning to see the sunrise. It’s the last one I’ll see until my next trip there, because there are too many buildings blocking my view at home.

Drove to the lighthouse to say my goodbyes later this morning, then to my favorite beach at the jetty, where I ran into Kevin fishing. He told me to cast before I leave and handed me his pole. I caught my very first drum!

Afterward, we went back to their house, and Kevin made us all some fish tacos, and whipped up some homemade salsa. It was a really nice last day on the island.

Leaving gets harder every time, and we were all really sad when I had to leave. I cried most of the drive back to Norfolk, and on both flights home. At least, I know I’m going back in four months, so the planning of that trip and the constant daily job searches will serve as distractions in the meantime. Anyway, I just got back home, and wanted to share a few pics from my last two days there.

So, yes, I even love it there in the winter. What a magical place.

Very happy it happened. Just missing everyone and everything there. Countdown has started for my next trip! smiley

Leaving is the absolute worst, I definitely relate. Hopefully when you find the job you want and relocate you will still post about your island life. Its fun for those of us who are missing the beach.

I dont know if you read Philip Howards blog "Ocracoke Island Journal", but he has an interesting post about Old Christmas. Sounds like a hoot for sure lol.

Isn't it AWFUL to leave?

I never quit appreciating that we're close enough to make multiple trips each year and that our knothead son is grown and out of school making off season trips a possibility. It seems to take some of the sting out of it when you know you can return in a few months....

RE: Buxton Trip - Jan. 11-21

I agree. Fortunately, my job is generous with vacation time, so I’m able to make three trips this year.

Last night, Kim texted me a pic of their dinner, saying they’re missing me, and just now, Kevin texted me a pic of the Point from this morning, and said they’re having fish again tonight, and missing me. I currently have a frozen pizza in the oven. Torture! smiley

Thanks for the trip report Jess. You have some good friends down there.

What a fantastic trip report. It truly feels like you are a natural 'component' of the Outer Banks and are a part of all the simple pleasures it provides. Thanks for sharing !

Thank you for your kind words, obiex.

Greg, yes, I've never known such kind people, and I feel very fortunate having met such wonderful friends on Hatteras Island. Kim told me the first night I met them in Nov. 2015, that she felt like it was fate that we met and that brought me there, and I think she may be right.

You are such a lucky lucky gal! Blessed with a winter trip AND such awesome friends. I enjoyed every word and want some of that food like, yesterday!

RE: Buxton Trip - Jan. 11-21

Thanks, Amy! I do feel lucky, and don't take any of it for granted. I'll be back in 118 days, so that's what keeps me going. haha
