To Frisco on Sat 7/15 - left hotel in Chesapeake @ 7am, avoided the toll, across the bridge with ease, breakfast @ Sam and Omies (45 min wait was time to celebrate- we are here). Started down to Frisco, enjoyed seeing the progress on the new Bonner - the best part of the day was receiving the text that our rental was ready early @ 11:30 am!!! Arrived, unpacked and first batch of Margarita's @ 2 PM!!!

I had 2 friends who rode their motorcycles down from Maryland on Saturday July 1st. They opted to take Rt. 17, instead of 168/158. They said it does add some time to the trip, but, it was a much smoother ride. Wondering if some folks are experimenting with alternate routes more and more?

I have a friend who came down with her family from NOVA this weekend. They came in Manteo way for the first time EVER. Her parents have had a cottage in KDH since before she was born...so more and more folks are opting out of the Wright Memorial Bridge. I don't know if they took a different route to avoid NOVA traffic, I64 traffic, WMB traffic or just wanted to change it up. But I'm certainly hearing about more folks doing it.

Not a down year for rentals at all. My thought is better planning by vacationers, plus the cops at the light eliminating the gridlock that really made the backups that much worse.

Well, that's certainly good to hear.

Coming from NOVA Sat Aug 19th and was not looking forward to either WMB traffic or the long ride the southern route. (Sister owns a house in Southern Shors). Whoever left Fredericksburg at 5am and got over the bridge at 830a is my hero! Clapping smiley Was contemplating overnighting near my sons place in Richmond and heading out from there using rte 460 to 168/158. I really want to avoid 64 with the construction. (Never like it anyway!)

There are directions on here some place that we have used - it involves getting off and using the last Wawa in VA. This time we stayed in Chesapeake in the Greenbrier area and just set my Waze to NO TOLLS - it was great.

Stupid easy.

Exit at Hillcrest Parkway (last exit before toll), take left at light, right at Wawa, stay on Battlefield Blvd until it runs back into the expressway at the light (make a right). Reverse on your way home.

That Wawa is a popular gas stop with cheap gas, although there's another Race Coast gas station a few miles south with cheap gas too and fewer cars.
