Hello All, I am planning a family reunion for 2019 and need a resort that has 30 + bedrooms. The simpler the better for our group, nothing fancy is required. A bonus would be a room or area that we could gather in for games or meals. Any suggestions?

Using the word resort sort of takes you away from the Outer Banks since we don't have many of what I think you are thinking of as a resort. Pirates Cove or Corolla Light would be sort of like a resort, but each house is owned by someone and not like a resort that is owned by a big company. The Sanderling would be the closest I can think of.

check twiddy.com and rent two larger homes that are side by side for the 30 BR's. The pools, hot tubs, home theaters, etc. will give you enough of that resort feel.

I would look at wedding venue type homes. They are quite large and there a few that has bedrooms in your range. This summer we had a group that rented our home that was part of a family reunion vacation and the group all rented homes in the schooner ridge community. But maybe you all are not looking for a weekly rental.

Thanks for the great suggestions so far. As far as the amenities we're looking for in a resort...there really aren't any. We aren't golfers, spa people, or high end restaurnaters. It's just that resorts usually offer the ability for each family to make their own reservation and therefor be responsible for their own bill or cancellation. There are 65 in our group and it's much like herding cats to get reservations made. We may end up going with a few rental houses, but I'd rather not, because if someone has to cancel then the rest of the group would have to pick up their portion of the home rental.

My serious answer would be to check with the new Beachwoods Resort behind the WalMart, they have a lot of family activities and an indoor waterpark!

I honestly don't think there is anything on the outer banks that could do that. Other than a large hotel.

Honestly, in a situation like that, I would either have each family book their own house or maybe 2 that get along well go together and book one, or have everyone pay in full up front and no refunds. If you cancel, too bad. It sounds terrible, but it keeps people from having to pay more close to the trip if someone decides to flake.

Doesn't Twiddy have a huge home ? Pine Island something? Not 30 BR, but close?

I would recommending calling Twiddy as well. I had friends that had weddings in the Outer Banks and Twiddy made their accommodations for a very large group of people

Another idea, the core families planing the get together could get one large home with big family room, dining room, maybe game room. Then send Info on nearby hotels or rental homes to the others. That way, there would be one home for folks to gather, each family could make reservations to suit themselves. Maybe the home could be a gathering place for games or a couple of meals. You could decide how much people could contribute to a kitty for food if they want to join in group meals.
Seriously, I wouldn't want to go in with flaky relatives in a house rental, much prefer everyone does their own thing and get together for a few special things

Twiddly has several homes that are available that you would only need to rent one house.

what about a condo complex? and everyone rent their own. (y'know with pool, some have spas, golf stuff, etc, etc..) If you have two years, I would assume you could inquire/find out! Colony by the Sea comes to mind, but there are newer/nicer ones as well!

As Tim stated, look into side-by-side homes. May need several.

Someone at FDA I had interaction with in the 1990s said that they get two homes next to each other in Corolla Light (as mentioned, sort of resort-like).

As also mentioned, Twiddy has some really big homes. Easy to search number of bedrooms. Largest is 28 in Pine Island.

Try rentals on the ocean - they have a bunch of houses real close together around MP17. All pet friendly and most have pools

Rented a home up in Whalehead about 10 years ago. Across the street they had a huge party going all week long.

Found out later that they had rented 3 or 4 six bedroom homes on the same street. I think they were 2 on one side and 2 on the other.

Everyone always seemed to hang at the one house, and sleep in all the others.

I still think Tim's input on looking at Sanderling is a good place to start. You can rent a home, or just all stay at the hotel....or mix it up.

There are three condo complexes next to each other in south Nags Head on Old Oregon Inlet road. Diamond Shoals, the Yachtsman, and Pier View. Pier View is only one I found with website, the other two have units that are rented by different companies.
