Hatteras Island Trip Report

5/19/17 Friday, My wife and I pulled into Hatteras Village last evening around 8:15 pm after a long drive and a stop at Angelos pizza in Buxton. After a good sleep and breakfast at Sonnys we headed up to the lighthouse for an annual beach driving permit.

It now appears that the beach permits are good for 12 months from the date of purchase now.

I got some mullet and shrimp then off we went to a spot just south of ramp 48. It was warm, mostly sunny, with very breezy winds in the face which required lots of cleaning of salt spray from the glasses. My weather pic.

RE: Hatteras Island Trip Report

The water was cool feeling to the feet and was dirty with some grass on the rising tide which got much worse after the tide turned.

RE: Hatteras Island Trip Report

The point had lots of vehicles as seen from ramp 48.

RE: Hatteras Island Trip Report

The beach was pleasantly not crowded today.

RE: Hatteras Island Trip Report

The beach from ramp 48 looking towards Frisco.

RE: Hatteras Island Trip Report

Very little bird activity except for an osprey hunting for something to eat right at the beach.

Fishing was slow today only catching small sharks, which I didn't take any pics of, with the grass fouling my lines. We stuck around till almost 5 pm then headed back to get cleaned up for supper at Sonnys. After we ate, we went grocery shopping at Conners, took a look in the dollar store, stopped at the car wash in Buxton, had a cruise around the point area, then drove up to find a spot along the sound for sun set. Clouds spoiled the plans for a good sun set.

Here is another shot of the less than spectacular sun set tonight. More for tomorrow. Thanks for looking.

Welcome back "home", PGH, to you and your wife.

Always appreciate your reports and photos - and don't think there's ever a bad sunset photo from down there. Wink smiley

RE: Hatteras Island Trip Report

Always love your reports and pictures, hope the fish are biting!

5/20/17 Saturday, Woke to sunny skies, warm temps, but fairly breezy. Had breakfast in this morning then off to ramp 55.

RE: Hatteras Island Trip Report

There were surprisingly few vehicles so I picked a spot a little more than half way down to the inlet. Ramp 55 looking toward Hatteras Village.

RE: Hatteras Island Trip Report

It was right around low tide when we arrived and didn't look like there would be any problems when high tide would occur about 3:30 pm. Ramp 55 looking toward the Hatteras inlet.

RE: Hatteras Island Trip Report

There was a number of holes and deeper water appeared to be fairly close to shore. I like fishing in an area that I can cast into deeper water. Pic of one of the holes.

RE: Hatteras Island Trip Report

Fishing was good with a medium ray and decent sized blues.

RE: Hatteras Island Trip Report

Many small black tip sharks.

RE: Hatteras Island Trip Report

A bunch of bottom feeders and a small flounder.

RE: Hatteras Island Trip Report

This is such great stuff! Great pics...Thanks!

RE: Hatteras Island Trip Report

There were plenty of pests looking for free meals.

RE: Hatteras Island Trip Report

A bunch of commercial fishing vessels.

RE: Hatteras Island Trip Report

Some large and some smaller ones.

RE: Hatteras Island Trip Report

Must be cobia around because of the close to shore boats.

RE: Hatteras Island Trip Report

Got a little crowded out there at times.
