packing up the car/suv/van/truck....

RE: packing up the car/suv/van/truck....

...is it a solo project or group effort?

I tackle this on my own and it becomes like a game of Tetris. Finding the right shapes to fit in the spaces available once the bulk items are in. The back of my Commander ends up looking like a calico wall.

You sound just like my husband....!! He does all the packing which is fine with me. Can't even imagine how he gets it all in there. Most stuff is his..golf clubs, fishing stuff,!! But we have lots of other stuff too. He does a great job packing I must say.
Having my wife or older kids help, just throws things off.

RE: packing up the car/suv/van/truck....

We just got back from a spring break trip to Surfside Beach and were talking about this. We used to come down to the OBX every year in a 1999 Chevy Lumina with just the trunk packed for a family of 4. Now when we come we have a Toyota Sienna with a family of 5, the roof top carrier is full, the cargo area is up and over the third row and the under every seat floor is full.

My everyone is responsible for packing there own bag and I do all the loading in the vehicle.

Anyone else marvel at how small a vehicle they used to pack 20+ years ago?

First trips, 1990 - 1996, were in my 1987 VW GTI 16v. My wife and I laugh that we used to take that for vacation.[/

I inherited the "Master Packer" gene, so hubby and I bring out everything and I pack the truck.

Are my husband and I the only ones that argue about the packing? Not who does the actual loading of the vehicles - we both do that - but how much stuff is going!! It never fails...every year my husband gripes at me that we are bringing too much. We don't rent linens so there is all that plus paper products. Over the years I have paired down the amount of towels we bring, and just plan on doing more laundry. Even though it's just the two of us and our dogs we drive separate vehicles. Our truck holds 1 dog and all the totes in the bed of the truck, and our sedan holds the other dog and our clothes, toiletries, etc. This year we'll be bringing our new dog so we'll also be bringing his crate too. That will be sure to create a game of tetris during loading of the truck!

Hubby does the packing. He has it down to a science. He brings everything outside and stacks it beside the Jeep first. When I look out and see the pile, I can't imagine how he's going to fit all that in the car, but somehow he manages. Much easier now that we no longer have dogs. When we brought our golden retriever with us he took up most of the back seat.

This is the outside. The inside? Don't even ask.

I do all the packing but wife does help. I got one of these suckers, much cheaper and easier to store then the big Thule cargo things. With dogs and just too much to bring, it is effective.

I have one, but I've yet to use it. I have also used the one that slides into your hitch. Those are nice as well.

I'm the designated packer for my clan. Tetris is a great analogy.

There is a place for everything, and everything in it's place.

We pack our Kia Soul in about 20 minutes. We're going down the shore. We don't take our house along. We travel light.

Funny that I thought we were the only ones to take pictures of our vehicle(s) when they are all packed and ready to go. Us OCDers take pride in our packing Clapping smiley

When my bff and I take our annual trek to Nag's Head, packing the trunk of a Honda is both a joint and creative effort! Laughing smiley
