Latest news is that the contractor announced that 1000 feet sections will be closed for 3 to 5 days at a time as it moves South from Duck. This contoversial topic for vacationers is devastating. The closure of 1000 sections is not like people have reported closing several "Houses" at a time. 1000 feet could be 20 houses at a time, not mention adjacent properties with the lingering effects of wed sand and debateable water quality. Especially not good for Kitty Hawk in Prime Summer Season.

This was a big reason we decided not to stay in Duck this year. With no public beach accesses, I just don't see how it would work.

Go to morebeachtolove.com and you can watch the videos of the meetings. Not much is set in stone yet. I hope Marylander sees that since she thinks all PMs have all the answers when WE DON'T.

We're avoiding the banks this year. After almost 20 years. Just don't need the drama. Don't want to rent above Duck or below Nags Head on the outer banks. This thing is shaping up to be a debacle. For that reason-I'm out.

A good opportunity to explore something completely different. Heading south. Maybe Georgia. What's a little extra driving time?

There's still more Outer Banks south of Nags Head.

Then rent in nags Head - no nourishment there at all this year.

I'm guessing they want to stay where there are more retail and restaurant choices. Some people find the quieter areas too quiet.

That said, as others have pointed out, Nags Head is not affected.

Am I the only one who thinks it would be cool to stay where they are doing beach nourishment? I'm a 33 year old women, who is really an 8 year old boy on the inside! I am fascinated by things like this!!!

Anyone want to rent me their ocean front house for cheap cheap when they are nourishing in front of it!?!?!

I thought I was the only one who wasn't worried about the nourishment. We are oceanfront in Southern Shores close to the Kitty Hawk pier the last two weeks of June. We figure if it happens it just might be interesting.........I hope!

So you only think it's cool if it's a 'cheap, cheap' experience?

It's not so cool if you paid $5-$10K for the week and it's your family's only vacation for the year is it?

I would set up my Go Pro as a time lapse camera taking a picture every 5 min or so and then seem them together. I am looking for the right house and time and I might try it.

Uh no... It would be a cool experience no matter what!!! The only way I could afford it was if it was cheap! I'd still be understanding no matter how much was paid, there are an endless supply of beaches to visit just in case the dredge gets parked in front of "your" house during "your" week. And in the end if you want a beach front house to be standing to rent again, well then nourishment is currently the only solution.

If you can work out the logistics of this, please share.

I think it the nourishment process is interesting, and have seen it elsewhere, as well as what happens when it isn't done, but it would be interesting to see if it's any different in the Banks due to the specific area or other factors and unless we day trip for some reason, we'll miss the nourishment process entirely.

Here's a link I found to the nourishment done in Nags Head a few years ago. It gives an idea of the speed they move as well as the negatives(light and noise) that may bother some. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tGs-OUIi9js
I'm like several others, in that I find this somewhat interesting to watch.

Sounds like Southern Shores is in.

At the March 7, 2017 Southern Shores Town Council meeting, the Council gave authorization to move forward with the beach nourishment project.

Southern Shores would either be in the beginning or end of the Kitty Hawk project.

It is anticipated that the Southern Shores beach nourishment project (total length (2,500 feet including 1,000 ft. taper-end area) is projected to take 7-10 days – depending on weather and normal equipment operations

We rented in South Nags Head the year that the Replenishment was done down there. It was only mildly intrusive. Even when they were in our immediate beach section (Disclaimer - we were not Ocean Front but facing the Beach Road) it was only a day or two of the week. We usually have a day or two for other activities, or stayed in the pool. Hopefully that will be the same process followed.

This made me smile. Love your attitude! I feel the same way; I'd find it fascinating to watch! I always stay in Buxton, but I'm rarely in one spot anyway, so if I couldn't get to the beach right in front of me, I'd just take a scenic drive to another beach. I feel like I can never see enough on the Outer Banks. I'll be there in a few weeks, and again first week of Oct., so I'll miss the nourishment. Hope someone will post some videos!
