How is the gun range in Manteo?
Are there any others?
I have my Concealed Carry Permit. Any town restrictions on the OBX I should know about?

PA has CCP reciprocity with NC, right? Pretty sure they do. And to old grey beard: i look forward to coming up your way in late Nov early Dec to rid your woods of certain 4 legged critters. I hunt the area around Cedar Run (pretty much the middle point on 414 between Rt. 44 and Rt. 15.

Is that a gun in your bathing suit? Or are you just happy to see me?

Two times - in one summer - I found a gun while inspecting homes and this is not the oddest thing I have found while inspecting houses.

I hear good things about the range. After working for Winchester and selling guns and ammo for 13 years I have seen many and got to use the Secret Service range in Maryland and FBI in Quantico. There is also a private gun club north of Stumpy Point that is outdoors. The police have a couple outdoor ranges, one in Nags Head and one near the Bodie lighthouse.

Winchester had a really neat firearms museum in New Haven when I was a kid. It was donated to the Cody Firearms Museum in 1975.

"The Cody Firearms Museum at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West houses the most comprehensive collection of American firearms in the world. In 1975, the Winchester Arms Collection, the heart of this museum, adventured west as a loan from the Olin Corporation. It was deeded as a gift in 1988. To date, the Cody Firearms Museum has over 7,000 firearms with more than 30,000 firearms-related artifacts."

The neatest thing I saw in the museum was a watermelon patch gun. It sat in the middle of your watermelon patch. You filled it with rock salt and ran 4 tripwires to the corners of your watermelon patch. Thumbs up

If you are traveling from out of state and get pulled over for a traffic stop keep your hands on the dash if you tell them you have a gun.

I've never felt the need to bring a weapon with me to the beach.

I'm sure some 2 amemendment NRA patriot will say it's better to have it and not need it than the other way around.

If you subscribe to that please pack all the heat you need. Mine stays home locked up. I guess I'll take my chances

I worked for Olin in the ammo plant in Alton Ill and they sent me to New Haven Ct and where I worked until I went into sales in the field for 9 years. We had our 1980 sale meeting at the Cody museum.

You have a better chance gettin' killed by a cop if you carry a gun than you would by an armed criminal if you do not. (Down here anyway. NOT AT ALL if you live in my town, which is Philly). Especially on the beach on an island not even a half-mile wide. Criminal wants my wallet? Here you go, buddy. It's just full of lint anyway.

No range that I know if in Manteo. There is a private, outdoor range in Stumpy Point that is 50.00 per year to join. There is a new indoor range in Powells Point (the old Liberty Tax building complex). I'm not sure what the cost is to join this range. No town specific regs, except prohibition for discharging a firearm in most town limits...just follow the NC regs for concealed carry.

There is an indoor firearms range called The Gun Shack. It is about 10 minutes north of the Wright Bridge. I was just there last week. Nice little place....best to bring your own since they have a limited selection for renting.

Neat!

A friend worked for the CT state police 35 years ago. Dr. Henry lee's lab.

I visited her arson lab at the large State Police facility in Meriden, and she showed me their firearms collection. The state police kept historically interesting firearms that came into their possession rather than destroy them. Things like Thompson submachine guns, etc. Really neat that they kept a collection.

I have my conceil and carry for PA. I would never feel the urge to bring it on the beach but the car ride down I have had some shady experiences at rest stops.

I am moving to the OBX, and was asking about available ranges and any specific restrictions.
I was not intimating that I was going to carry a gun around the beach.
Thanks to all who answered my question directly.

While there is reciprocity (don't get pulled over in MD) be cognizant and remember to get on your NC CCW asap as it takes forever to come in. Also, once your DL is NC your PA permit is void and/or going to be an issue if you need it to back you up.

The two public ranges here are in Mann's Harbor, ($50 year or $10 for a one time deal) or the new indoor range in Jarvisburg. I am so anxious to do the new indoor range but just haven't been able to do it yet. Read this post while you can, cause I am about 100% sure the anti-gun members will have it gone by tomorrow. Shame on them. Free speech, etc.
