Bypassing the toll on 158. (And Wyatt update)

RE: Bypassing the toll on 158. (And Wyatt update)

I travel through there about 50 times per year and take Hillcrest every time. Every dollar that stays in my pocket is one more beer in my hand whilst sitting on my deck.

It’s been ages since I’ve driven that stretch, like maybe 12+ years. Are you all not doing Centerville Turnpike at Six Flags Over Jesus? 64 to Indian River Rd?

We haven't flown into Norfolk for about 10 years and we have been driving down 77 and across 64 into Manteo. My husband's health makes flying a better alternative, so when I saw the great airfares,I jumped on them. I'm not sure of the route you described. We planned to head down 158.

I was doing the Hillcrest exit when I go down until I got stuck 2 Saturdays in a row behind farm equipment doing 20MPH. I signed up for the Chesapeake Expressway club and pay an monthly fee of 3 or 4 dollars and .75 every time i go through the toll.

Being the tightwad I am, I would have kept going with Military Hwy, but my wife vetoed it after the multiple farm equipment incidents. I still bypass the tolls if I'm going that way for whatever without my wife.

Centerville is WAY more 2 lane driving and you don't go by Wawa.

I like babies.

I enjoy the time saving improvements to the highways and roads I have traveled for many decades going to Hatteras. I use the Chesapeake Expressway and pay the toll rather than travel the scenic bypass past the waste water treatment plant on S. Battlefield Blvd. I've attached a map link for those looking for alternate routes to avoid the toll. I've also attached an early 60's picture of travel to Cape Hatteras campground before some travel time saving improvements were completed.

Again, I like babies.

If you are referring to the wawa in Tinicum, I know someone who use to work there and the stories she could tell ya are well, we can't tell them here Theeth smiley Getting back to bypassing the toll, I find myself doing it more cause I make about 10-14 trips a year now. Just depends on what day it is or time of the day. Or if I need to catch a ferry or not Wink smiley

That Wawa us right down the street from Lou Turks, two great Delco Institutions there.

Since I’m never driving further than VA and usually ORF or PHF I’m not concerned about Wawa’s, nor do my future plans revolve around the area. I’m guessing that VA has made some widening and improvements in the last decade or so? I think it was a Hardee’s there at the turnoff before Chesapeake onto Centerville Turnpike, and yeah, two lanes, residential with traffic lights and redonkulous deep ditches with zero shoulders.

It has been a while for you. Hardee's closed several years ago. It's now a Mexican restaurant. Chesapeake has made some road improvements, but they have also worked hard to slow the flow of traffic on S. Battlefield Blvd. in an effort to keep traffic on the Expressway. They installed 3 traffic lights and lowered the speed limit on most of Battlefield. They have plans for 2 more traffic lights between Centerville and where you can tieback into 168.

All that said, I still go down Battlefield. Just to top off at Wawa and grab some snacks for my boys.

You know, I shouldn't jump on here but I will:

First, Caspian is a doll! What a beautiful child with a great smile. Enjoy every moment!

Second, what in the world is going on these days? Everyone is always angry. We see it on the roads with "road rage." We see it in line at the store. We see it on social media. We obviously see it on the news among our national "leaders." We even see it on our beloved OBXConnection. Everyone is always angry. I like to ask myself, "in light of eternity, what does it matter?" I also like to remember "the problem isn't the problem." These people are mad because someone is taking a toll road. They aren't critical because there is a real reason to be. They have some other major problem that is nagging them and they take it out on others. It's all very sad though that it seems to be more common place.

Why do people enjoy being rude? THANKFULLY, the vast majority of people here are good people. Thanks for sticking around and be kind to someone today!
