WOW - See Sea Motel and Tar Heel Motel Renovations

Has anyone else been to the new refinished See Sea and Tar Heel on the beach road? A friend of mine rented a room and sent me a photo... looks nothing like I remember in the past. Not sure who manages them but wow the places look great and new life there again! Nice they aren't torn down into rental homes!

I'm not familiar with this place, however it does look very pretty. Here's another thread in a sub forum you might like to check out t: http://www.obxconnection.com/outer%2Dbanks%2Dforum/forum-thread.aspx?Thread=102431

Spent my honeymoon at Tar Heel motel 57 years ago. Had to climb at huge dune to get to the beach.

We were down on Mother's Day, age at the Dunes restaurant right next to Tar Heel, and could see how hard they were working on the interior of the rooms. Tar Heel is a popular place, we have friends who have stayed there often and like it a lot.

Here's an update which should make some pleased: https://outerbanksvoice.com/2018/07/11/saving-the-tar-heel-and-see-sea-whats-old-is-new-again-2/

And it is not just about The Tar Heel. The article explains an group of individual investors/builders have plans to save motels: "We wanted to save these motels and preserve a piece of the past. We feel there is a market for these motels and to our group, this just feels like the right thing to do..."

As a kid, 50+ years ago, my family and I stayed in so many of these Mom & pop hotels. Most of them are gone now. But I remember staying at the See Sea several times. We always loved it. I'm so glad that some are being saved. Just wish they could have saved the Pebble Beach.
